The 2018 Vodafone Fiji Hibiscus festival was launched in Suva last night with the theme Reuse, Reduce, Refuse, Repurpose and Recycle.

The festival which will be held at the Valelevu grounds in Nasinu for the first time will see more than forty contestants competing in all categories.

Launching the weeklong festival, Assistant Minister for Environment Lorna Eden says there’s been many hurdles faced by the Hibiscus Committee in finding a venue for the event over the years.

Eden says that Nasinu will provide a good platform for the mother of all festivals.

“I have no doubt that this choice is a wise one. We all know that Nasinu is the largest metropolis in Fiji population wise so it’s only fitting that we take the festivities directly to their door step for a change.”

Hibiscus Committee Chair Hirdesh Prasad says they went through some challenging times in finding a suitable location and thanks the Nasinu town Council for accepting their offer.

Meanwhile, the Hibiscus festival will be held from next Saturday to the 18th of this month.
