Prime Minister, Voreqe Bainimarama says gone are the days where Fijians were left fighting over who deserved what.

Speaking in Melbourne, Australia over the weekend, Bainimarama said today all Fijians are working towards the same goal – ‘A better, stronger Fiji and a more prosperous Fiji.’

Bainimarama says there are many things the government has done, but chief among them is the foundation of equal citizenry and opportunity established by the 2013 Constitution.

He says under the Constitution, all Fijians are finally equal and it mandates that government works to realise an unprecedented array of civil, political, socioeconomic and cultural rights.

Bainimarama says the Constitution has been the guide and the noble principles it enshrines have defined the nation – Fiji has grown to become.

He says under previous governments, for decades, Fiji was held back by deep and damaging divisions in our society.

The Prime Minister says in those years, Fijians weren’t a united people, and it was the wealthy and privileged who benefitted from the few resources that were able to go around, with ordinary Fijians left fighting amongst themselves for the scraps.

He says the 2013 Constitution has ended those dark years and finally brought everyone together.
