200 cases of child labour recorded to date

The Employment Ministry has identified 200 cases of child labour since 2011 to date.

Permanent Secretary for Employment, Salaseini Daunabuna made the comments while speaking at the World Day Against Child Labour celebration today.

Daunabuna says the Ministry investigated these cases and these children are back into school – where they belong.

“From the Fijian government perspective there have been numerous initiatives that have been introduced to ensure a child labour free society and to ensure that every Fijian Child is provided with the best possible care”

Daunabuna says they have conducted trainings for the stakeholders and done ground inspections to ensure laws are being followed.

The theme for this year’s World Day Against Child Labour is “Generation Safe & Healthy!”
