A twenty-year-old man who pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated burglary and one count of theft escaped custodial sentence.
The court heard Lepani Tuli and another accused entered a shop in Nausori and stole assorted items valued at more than six thousand dollars in January.
High court Judge Justice, Chamath Morais said these types of offences have increased due to the leniency they are dealt with and society now demands an unsympathetic or stern judicial approach on these types of offences.
However, he said Tuli should be given an opportunity to mend his ways and become a good law abiding citizen.
Tuli has been sentenced to 35 months imprisonment which has been suspended for 5 years.
