Twenty out of the thirty-eight recommendations made by the Multi-national Observer Group following the 2014 Election have been implemented.

This was revealed by Electoral Commission Chair, Suresh Chandra while responding to claims made by politicians who said the upcoming election will not be free and fair.

Chandra says looking at Fiji’s history, its more than any previous Commission has done so far.

He challenged the leaders of political parties to show them how many recommendations they implemented during their time.

“Parties are in a different world when they blatantly state that my Commission is a passive Commission. One has to only look at the last 18 months or so since our appointment and you will see how much we have done in such a short span of time.”

Political parties have accused the Electoral Commission and the Fijian Elections Office of bias and have claimed the upcoming election will not be free and fair.

Chandra says personal attacks is nothing but gutter talk.
