More than 20 families in Dreketi village on Qamea Island have been evacuated to a neighbouring settlement due to a landslide.

FBC News spoke to Dreketi villager Viliame Gauna who says half of the houses in Dreketi were destroyed after the landslide hit on Sunday morning.

He says the Laucala District School and also the Qamea Health Centre which was situated beside the village were demolished.

Gauna says it was a terrifying experience as he’s lived on the island for 45 years and never seen anything as devastating.
