A 2 year old child is believed to be the country’s latest drowning victim.

The child was at home with her mother and sister when it is alleged she went missing at about 7pm from Matawalu village in Lautoka.

Her 26 year old mother alerted villagers who went in search of the child and found her body in a nearby river.

The victim was rushed to the Lautoka Hospital but was pronounced dead.

The drowning toll stands at 15 compared to 25 for the same period last year.

The Fiji Police Force is calling on parents and guardians to keep a close eye on their children at all times.
