2 more charged with sedition

Another two people are expected to be presented at the Lautoka Magistrates Court today in relation to seditious activities in the Ra province.

The pair was supposed to appear in the Tavua Magistrates Court.

However, the Tavua Court is closed and the case will now be called in Lautoka.

A total of 74 people have now been charged with sedition-related activities.

Meanwhile 14 Nadroga people who are charged with sedition and urging communal antagonism appeared in the Lautoka High Court this morning.

Two of the accused, Adi Cuvu Talatoka and Adi Vasemaca Gonewai, missed the first court sitting this morning as their transfer from the Suva Women’s Remand Centre was delayed.

Lautoka High Court judge, Justice Thusara Rajasinghe stood down the case to 3pm to ensure that the pair is in court for the hearing.

The office of the DPP has asked the court for seven days to study the defence’s application for bail.

The case will be re-called at 3pm.
