The Energy Fiji Limited will need $2.4bn to carry out its ten year Power Development Plan.

The Minister says this is being done in an effort to meet the high demand for electricity.

“The power development plan also highlights the associated electricity network to be developed or upgraded and it’s estimated that total funding of 2.4 billion will be required to do this.”

The Power Development Plan will also enhance the government’s aim to provide 100 percent access to electricity by 2021.

Usamate says the government will also focus on the Half-Life Refurbishment Project at Monasavu.

Meanwhile, Fiji’s electricity demand has increased by 18 percent in the last four years.
