About 192 children are currently under the care of ten approved homes around the country.
Child Services Unit Assistant Director, Ela Tukutukulevu says these children are victims of sexual abuse and violence against children while some are being neglected from their own homes.
”While they are there in the homes, they receive all the care, they are being sent to school just like a normal child. It may not be a home setting where they have their parents but definitely we meet the needs of the children.”
Tukutukulevu says the ministry works to ensure the safety of these children before they are re-united with their families.
Children under the care of homes around the country are also part of programmes and schemes implemented by the ministry to ensure they are safe and are free from such cases.
