19 people were charged with 31 separate incidents of serious sexual offences last month.

23 of the offences were rape, 2 of sexual assault, 2 for defilement, 2 for indecent assault and 1 case of assault with intent to commit rape.

Of the 31 incidents, there were 13 victims of rape and through the same incident were also victims of assault with intent to commit rape.

Of the 13 victims, 7 were under the age of 18. Of the 7, 5 were below the age of 18 and 2 below the age of 12.

2 cases were discontinued before the courts after discontinuances were filed for 2 rape matters.

There was one case of child rape where the victim was eight years old.

There was also a case of rape where both the victim and the accused were of the same gender (male).

Of the 23 cases of rape, 2 were cases of rape involving a domestic relationship between step-daughter and a step-father and an uncle and his niece.
