18-years and over adults in Fiji

All citizens of Fiji from the age of 18 are now legally adults and not considered minors anymore.

As a part of Government’s ongoing efforts to empower Fijian youth, the Fiji Public Trustee Corporation Act has been amended to be more inclusive in its definition of an adult.

The new law enables young Fijians to have greater say over their affairs and conduct.

Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says this is similar to how government lowered the voting age to 18, one of the non-negotiable aspects of the new constitution.
