$175m film productions for first half of 2017

More than $175 million worth of film productions have been generated from the first 6 months of this year.

Tourism Minister Faiyaz Koya says this year is going to be busier.

He adds that with more quality productions scheduled for the second half of this year, they’re looking at another record breaking year for the film industry.

“Government is mindful of the benefits that such a growing industry brings in terms of employment, economic activity and film tourism. In 2016, we a total of 57 productions valued at $135million took place in Fiji. Apart from direct benefits, the production of films and shows in Fiji increases the visibility of our country on the international stage, which in turn promotes and boosts the tourism sector by driving visitor arrivals.”

Koya says Film Fiji is working hard on next year’s production slate and are working with some very good quality projects.
