Over 173 cases of child labour have been recorded in Fiji over the last 4 years.

Usamate says child labour is not only found in businesses but also in our homes.

‘’Child labour is not only found in businesses but in our very own homes. Therefore, child labour needs to be looked at holistically and on a national basis’’.

There are instances in our own homes and communities where children have had to stay home and miss school to tend to family commitments which occur during school hours like crop harvesting, looking after younger siblings and when they do this they don’t go to school and they do not have the development they should have.

Usamate was the chief guest at the celebration of the World Day against Child Labour in Suva this morning.
