170 cases of children being indecently touched in 80% of schools nationwide were recorded from July 2016 to June last year.

National Substance Abuse Advisory Council chief executive, Manoa Senikarawa says of these 89 incidents occurred in Primary schools while 81 were recorded in Secondary schools.

Senikarawa adds these cases were reported to the Council by school heads.
He says this is a serious issue and a challenge for parents and guardians.

”They should feel free to share with us and at the same time while we have that open line of communication with our kids we then can be able to share with them things that they need to be aware of that will safeguard them as they live our homes to go out into the world outside there.”

Senikarawa is advising parents to speak to their children on this issue and also encourage them to openly share their ideas and troubles.
