17 Permanent Secretaries confirmed

17 government Permanent Secretaries have been appointed by the Public Service Commission – 11 of whom are locals.
3 appointees are current Permanent Secretaries who continue in their role, 5 are senior civil servants promoted from within, another 5 are expatriates while 2 are Fijians serving overseas.
Current High Commissioner to India, Yogesh Karan takes over as Permanent Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office.
Deputy Secretary Finance David Kolitagane is the Permanent Secretary for Public Enterprise.
Director for Curriculum Advisory Services at the Education Ministry Iowane Tiko is the new Permanent Secretary for Education, Heritage and Arts.
The new Permanent Secretary of Fisheries and Forests is the current Conservator of Forests Samuela Lagataki while Divisional Commissioner Central, Meleti Bainimarama becomes PS Rural and Maritime Development and National Disaster Management.
Director Mineral Resources Malakai Finau has been appointed PS for Lands and Mineral Resources.
Acting Permanent Secretary Health, Dr Meciusela Tuicakau has been confirmed
as the substantive appointee while Acting PS in the Prime Minister’s Office, Naipote Katonitabua takes over as PS for iTaukei Affairs.
Those who continue in their posts include PS for Industry and Trade Shaheen Ali, PS for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation Dr. Joe Koroivueta and Permanent Secretary for Defence, Osea Cawaru.
PSC Chair Vishnu Mohan says the names of 5 expatriate Permanent Secretaries will be revealed once they have been informed of the appointment.
All positions are expected to be filled by January 1st.
