Only sixteen bus companies have met first phase of the hundred percent quality assurance maintenance system.
Land Transport Authority Board Chair, Vijay Maharaj, says buses need to go through three phases in order to run on our roads.
Maharaj says phase one is very difficult and not all companies have passed.
His comments come after a bus belonging to Tebara Buses Limited caught fire in Makoi, Nasinu on Tuesday evening.
Maharaj says LTA conducts fleet inspections of various buses and also takes record of the companies’ maintenance.
