One thousand five-hundred and forty-four people were diagnosed with cancer last year alone.

Consultant Physician at the Colonial War Memorial hospital Dr Ane Veu says the Ministry has also observed new trends.

“The rate of cancer under age 30 is low by international standard however in the clinical scenario, in the clinical setting unfortunately this does not hold true. We are seeing younger and younger women and men being diagnosed with cancers.”

Meanwhile, the Fiji Cancer Society says they will continue to assist Fijians diagnosed with cancer through the funds raised during their Biggest Morning tea event.

Seventeen organizations participated in Fiji’s Biggest Morning tea last year raising around sixty thousand dollars.

The annual event aims to raise funds to help fight against cancer.
