The Fijian Elections Office has confirmed that the 1501 SMS received by many voters across the country from yesterday is not fake.

Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem says they started using their 1501 platform from yesterday.

Saneem told FBC News, they sent out an SMS to every Election Day voter from their 1501 platform to inform them of their registered polling station.

He says they have done this to assist any voter who may not have checked their information using the 1500 SMS platform.

However, it has caused confusion among voters, most of whom have taken to social media to voice their concern.

“We have subsequently received responses from voters to say that so and so voter is not using this number. So, we assume that, that is because either the voter has given us an incorrect number when they registered the voter has left that number and that voter has been reused by someone else. This morning we sent another message to voters to say if you have received the number on this message and you are not the voter as we have identified, please ignore this message.”

Saneem says so far, the FEO’s 1500 SMS platform has been accessed only 168,000 times and there’s around 40,000 who have yet to access their voter details.

He says by using the 1501 SMS platform they are trying as much as possible to reach as many voters they can.
