15 Officers monitor situation on the ground

About 15 officers from the Commissioner Eastern’s Office are currently in the Southern Lau to monitor the situation as they prepare for Severe Tropical Cyclone Gita.

Commissioner Eastern Luke Moroivalu says preparations are well underway on the sixty seven villages in the Lau Group.

Moroivalu says committees have been selected in various villages in the Lau Group led by Turaga ni Koros to ensure preparation is well underway.

“As I speak, the communities are getting together forming up their disaster committee and working on the preparation mode in terms of preparation mode in terms of disaster preparedness. The disaster committees have been trained and are fully aware of the roles they have to play on the ground.”

Moroivalu says they are currently monitoring the situation in the Southern Lau group and so far according to the officers on the ground they is still no sign of the cyclone as the weather was fine from this morning.

Severe Tropical cyclone Gita is expected to enter the Fiji waters from tomorrow night
