Fourteen bridges have been successfully redesigned and built along the Nabouwalu-Dreketi highway.

MWH Global Senior engineer Craig Mocke added that the bridges have been a difficult one for them.

“It’s quite challenging to build 14 reinforced concrete bridges some of them quite long in extent over the time period and I think we very much completed the bridges in 2.5 years whereas we expected it to be longer because all the bridges were redesigned.”

Mocke adds the bridges were initially designed for 50 years however, they increased the design life to 100 years and may even be more than that.

Of the 14 bridges, one has been specially built to go underwater to reduce the impact of flood getting into houses.

The bridges were built within two and a half years.
