PM congratulates India on its independence day

The Prime Minister conveyed his congratulations to India on the occasion of the country’s 73rd Independence Day anniversary.

Voreqe Bainimarama, in a congratulatory message to his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi, says the occasion marked a proud day for democracy around the world with India leading the way to reach yet another milestone.

Today, Indians around the world will mark the special occasion with their leader, Modi, expected to hoist their country’s tricolor flag at the Red Fort when delivering his speech to the nation.

Bainimarama says the two countries have enjoyed strong relations which is not only etched in history but built on a solid foundation of collaboration and strong relationship.

He adds cooperation between our two countries spans across trade, investment, healthcare, communication, education, sports, climate change, renewable energy, and resource-based sectors.

The Prime Minister also acknowledged India’s timely financial assistance to Fiji’s small and micro enterprises sector through the provision of the Micro and Small Business Grant which has benefitted the lives of many ordinary Fijians.

Bainimarama also reaffirmed his support to Modi and looked forward to strengthening the values shared between the two countries which would continue to serve as a solid platform to raise the level of political dialogue and increase closer collaboration for a stronger Fiji-India relation.
