128 breast cancer surgeries conducted at CWM Hospital

The CWM Hospital in Suva has conducted 128 breast cancer surgeries so far this year.

Associate Professor Surgery at FNU’s College of Medicine, Nursing and Heath Sciences Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete reveals at least one or two breast cancer surgeries are conducted at the CWM Hospital every week.

Dr Waqainabete says the incidents of breast cancer are alarmingly increasing amongst the young.

He says it’s important that patients present themselves early at hospitals so they can receive treatment in a timely manner.

The General Surgeon also highlights one of the highly rated messages in fighting breast cancer is early detection.

He adds people should know that in Fiji, they are able to treat the early forms of breast cancer which leads to higher long-term survival rate.

Yesterday marked the starting of the Pinktober Campaign, a platform aimed at creating greater cancer awareness at the national level.
