Brigadier-General Qiliho says people who sign up to protect the law and everyday Fijians deserve to be treated better.

Policemen and women are not punching bags.

That’s the sentiment of Police Commissioner Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho following repeated attacks and threats against the Force.

“Morale is high and we will continue to do our job – but they didn’t sign up to be punching bags for people.”

In the latest incident, seventeen men were arrested in Levuka yesterday for a confrontation which led up to three police officers sustaining injuries.

Three officers had initially attended a report on Saturday where 20 men were drinking alcohol in Levuka town after 7 pm.

They asked the men to clear the area but were threatened and chased.

On Saturday night, a police constable was attacked with an axe at the Cunningham Police Post.

All suspects are in custody.
