Govt to monitor fireworks sale and use

Leading up to Diwali the Ministry of Lands and Mineral resources will be undertaking a 2-week inspection of retailers.

This is to follow up on the sale of fireworks.

Deputy Secretary for the Ministry of Lands and Mineral resources Dr. Raijeli Taga says the inspections are done on the sale of fireworks in the licensed premises and to ascertain if the fireworks are being sold with proper permits.

Taga says the teams will also monitor how fireworks are being used by the consumers and any unsafe use will be documented.

 

“Prior to Diwali or any other day apart from the Diwali fireworks can be used from 5pm to 10pm that’s being allowed within the legislations but on Diwali and Diwali Holiday it’s from 5pm to 12am.”

She adds there are only six importers of fireworks which include Mahesh Syndicate, New World Limited, Rups Investment Limited, Morris Hedstrom, R.B Patel Group Limited and Sky Glory Limited.
