1200 users seek water bill waiver

The Water Authority of Fiji has so far received 1200 applications from customers to waive debts they owe to the Authority for years of unpaid water and sewerage bills.

Last month, the government announced that unpaid bills amounting to $14 million will be waived benefiting around 100- thousand Fijians throughout the country.

Authority’s Corporate Communications Leader – Fulori Turaga says most of the applications are from customers in the Western Division.

“If you are going through what our CEO has been reiterating in the past if there are genuine cases we will write them off totally, just a couple of days ago, Ballentine Memorial School, they had more than $24,000 that was totally written off, and for another family more than a $1000 was totally written off, we believe that some customers who qualify they are still able to pay, but we are only looking at very genuine cases. “

Applications will close on the 31st of December this year.
