$11M Namau dam hit a snag

July 16, 2019 12:40 pm

The newly completed Namau Dam in Tailevu is facing issues even before the multi-million dollar project could be commissioned.

Infrastructure Minister Jone Usamate visited the recently completed project recently and confirms there are piping issues in supplying water to the dam.

“One of the problems we have is that the amount of water that should be going to the package plant is not the level that we want. There is a 5mega liter tank that we can’t fill up. That is something that WAF is working to identify what the solution is and it has to liaise with China Railway to get to the original problem and to fix the piping.”

The $11 million dam was built by China Railway and Usamate is confident the project will be commissioned soon.

Once complete, it will meet the growing demand for clean water in Tailevu North supplying water to Lodoni, Sawakasa, Dakuinuku, Namau, and other nearby villages.
