11 people charged with serious sexual offences: ODPP

Eleven people were charged with a total of twenty-four separate sexual offences last month.

The latest statistics released by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions states there were fourteen rape cases, one assault with intent to rape, one indecent assault and eight sexual assault cases.

There were eleven victims of whom five were under the age of eighteen.

There was one incident where a victim was allegedly raped during a home invasion.

In another separate incident, the accused was charged with criminal intimidation and rape.

There were three incidents where the accused and the victims were related to each other.

In one incident a twenty-one-year-old is alleged to have raped his nine-year-old cousin and in another a thirty-year-old man is alleged to have raped and sexually assaulted his fifteen-year-old niece.

There was one incident where a fourty-five-year-old man is alleged to have raped his twenty-four-year-old sister-in-law.

Two cases were withdrawn after discontinuances were filed.

Of these two, one was withdrawn due to a false statement from the victim.
