1087 evacuees taking shelter in 30 centres

Those people who are still taking shelter at the evacuation centres in the Central Division have been urged to return home if flood waters have receded in their areas.

Commissioner Central, Setareki Tale, says people need to take advantage of the fine weather and start cleaning up their homes.

Tale, has confirmed to FBC News that a total of 1087 evacuees are taking shelter in 30 evacuation centres in the central division

Seven evacuation centres are activate in Naitasiri, six in Tailevu, thirteen in the Rewa Delta, two in Serua and two evacuation centres are open within the Wainibuka area but belongs to the Province of Ra

“A lot of these evacuation centres are overnight shelters as these people were taking precautionary measures which we very much appreciated. People have used the elevated areas to rest for the night and that is our situation. There are only a few which are permanent evacuation centres and perhaps the advice is if they can get back to normal as quickly as possible.”

Tale says they are now looking at providing assistance to those in the evacuation centres.
