The Bottega Fijian Fashion Festival has provided a platform for twenty -three local designers to showcase their talent and gain recognition not only locally, but globally as well.

The Festival kicked off with a charity dinner on Thursday and last night was the first evening where the designer’s pieces took to the runway.

Fashion Council of Fiji President, Faraz Ali says the response has been overwhelming welcoming as people are excited for the dawn of a new era for fashion in Fiji.

The youngest local designer is a secondary school student and Ali says this is representative of how the council sees the development of the fashion sector starting with those still in school.

“The festival and the council is all about creating business and so our event is not an entertainment event. The runaway is only part of it , after this what we want to do is to ensure that our designers are able to make money to put food on their table and buy a house, expand their businesses and become a household, regional and global names.”

Ten designers will showcase their creative work tonight as the Bottega Fijian Fashion Festival culminates its debut showing and wraps up its fashionable week of all things in style.
