With only a few days left for Diwali, the Consumer Council is urging traders not to indulge in unethical practices.

Council Chief Executive Seema Shandil says traders are taking advantage of the busy periods and they’ve seen expired products being put on the shelves.

Shandil is also urging Fijians to take out time to check their receipts.

“We have seen that a lot of expired products, food items have been placed on the shelves. As I have said people are making purchases or buying things in a rush so they don’t check. So consumers please exercise your responsibility. Whatever you put in your trolley check it twice and check for the due dates.”

Meanwhile, traders are being reminded to refrain from selling goods that are not of merchantable quality and to provide appropriate redress in a timely manner for faulty goods sold to consumers.
