Tourism industry remains resilient: Minister

Tourism is paving the way for Fiji’s growth says, Minister Premila Kumar.

Speaking during the opening of the Fijian Tourism Expo in Nadi last night, Kumar says our tourism industry has remained resilient through the years.

She says last year, Fiji welcomed a record 870,309 visitors.

According to Kumar the industry is now worth $2 billion and it’s on track to reach the $2.2 billion industry target by 2021.

“We are a united industry, one that connects, builds bridges and moves the Fijian economy forward. We are an industry that has over the years learnt to be resilient in the face of crisis. We are an industry performing exceptionally well, contributing to more than 30 percent to Fiji’s GDP, and employing 1 in 3 people.”

Kumar says 2019 marks the fifth year of the FTE, an event specifically designed to share the true essence of the Fijian tourism experience.

She adds those present during the Expo, plays an important role in the growth of the industry.
