The Ministry of Agriculture has identified the province of Rewa as an area suitable for mass rice cultivation for commercial use.

While visiting the province, Senior Agriculture Officer Mohammed Khan says due to its geographical location and high annual rainfall Rewa is ideal for the rice industry.

Khan says the ministry under its Crop Extension Division has put together a program to urge Rewa farmers to consider large scale rice farming for food and income security.

“This is a programme under the Rice Development Program of the Ministry in order to assist and show farmers how rice cultivation is done. The activity is Rice demonstration – a full package demonstration done by the Ministry to educate our farmers on rice farming and how we can go about in rice farming.”

Khan adds the province has 15,000 hectares of land that are suitable for rice farming and only 3,000 hectares have been utilized so far by rice farmers.

The ministry is working on field days to further educate rice farmers.
