The Pacific Fishing Company has indicated that they are not interested in moving loining operations to a location near Suva.

PAFCO Chief Executive Bhan Pratap made this comment to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Public Accounts.

“We believe PAFCO is the best location for processing Tuna, it has the workforce, it has the facilities, it can continue as a good loining plant, provided the supply of tuna is there”

Bumble Bee Foods, which sometimes supplies fish to PAFCO suggested to the government in 2011 that operations should be relocated to the capital.

Pratap told the Standing Committee that 2019 has been one of the worst years for PAFCO in terms of Tuna supply.

He adds since the PAFCO Wharf has been declared as a port of entry, they expect business to flourish.
