According to an Asian Development Bank study, it has been revealed that only 19 percent of women have their business registered.

This was highlighted by the Senior Women Interest Officer for the Ministry of Women Children and Poverty Alleviation Anareta Apole.

Apole says majority of the businesses registered by women are Small and Medium Enterprises.

“The project that we will be doing for the next five years, will be looking at the legal framework, policy, and legislation which actually will promote women and what are the gaps we see in promoting women’s economic growth.”

Apole says they’ll be looking at conducting an MSME mapping exercise whereby they will try to find out where women currently stand in terms of starting and running a business.

She adds they’re also looking at digitalization and innovation as the way forward.
