The Civil Aviation Minister has clarified there is no conflict in the management roles of the Fiji Airways and Tourism Fiji.

Minister, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says there is nothing contradicting about Fiji Airways chief executive Andre Viljeon holding the position of Tourism Fiji chair.

This comes after Opposition questioned the neutrality of the position in parliament yesterday.

Minister, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says there is great synergy between the two organisations as they operate with the same objective.

He adds this is to bring more tourists into the country.

“There is absolutely no question of neutrality in any way being breached by the chair of Tourism Fiji being the chief executive of Fiji Airways. Indeed, we have had other chief executives of Fiji Airways being chair of Tourism Fiji.”

Sayed-Khaiyum says the Tourism Fiji Act lays out the objectives and the mandate of the board members, which ensures accountability at all times.
