No cash crisis says Governor Ali

There is no cash crisis in the country says Reserve Bank Governor Ariff Ali.

Ali says claims on social media that Fiji has cash and liquidity crisis are false.

He says the most appropriate level of liquidity right now is $300m.

“We have in our vault enough money that will meet the demands for the next five years or even more, so there is no cash crisis. I see a lot of social media talking about the cash crisis. We have got more than enough cash in our stock to meet the demands of the public or the economy for the next five years or even more.”

The Governor says the level of liquidity is something that the RBF influence’s and manages whether it should be high or low.

Ali says the RBF manages liquidity on a day to day basis.
