Low volume of exports affect Post Fiji: Bansod

Fiji’s trade deficit has affected income generation for Post Fiji because lesser exports mean less business for the postal service.

Chief Executive Dr Anirudha Bansod says without increasing exports at a commercial level, Post Fiji will struggle to grow.

“At the moment Fiji is predominantly doing more imports whether you consider the importation of all the goods and products coming from overseas. There is a huge trade deficit between the import and export gap. So when we do more exports, that’s where we start earning more money for the country as well as Post Fiji”.

Dr. Bansod adds Fiji needs to diversify its exports, which in the end will enable Post Fiji to achieve its target of 75, 000 tons of deliveries annually.

The postal service is also looking at new opportunities to increase revenue.
