One of the main challenges of the local construction industry is losing qualified and skilled workers to overseas markets.

During the Construction Industry Council meeting in Suva, Entec Limited Pratap Singh says some local construction companies are finding it difficult to recruit people and train them with the skills needed.¤

Singh says the shortage of skilled workers in the construction sector is making work difficult for many local companies.

“The challenge for us is to train people unfortunately. Universities should also train people. We cannot be complaining that they are leaving our shores as we cannot stop it. The teaching institutions have a role to play and private sector as well.”

Singh also says settling disputes in the construction sector is another challenge.
