Idle land in Bua improvised for sugarcane farm

About 500 acres of good fertile but idle land in Nasarawaqa, Bua have now been turned into sugar cane plantation.

Two landowning units from the village have formed a joint venture with the Fiji Sugar Corporation to plan sugar cane on their land.

Under the joint venture agreement the Fiji Sugar Corporation will prepare the land, plant the cane, manage it and undertake harvesting.

The revenue derived from harvesting will be shared between the landowners and the FSC.

The land owners get 70-percent of the revenue while FSC gets 30-percent.

The Mataqali Nukusolevu offered 360 acres of their land while Mataqali Vunikurakura offered 110 acres.

Visiting the farms Fiji Sugar Corporation CEO Graham Clark says he is excited about the development as the mataqali also get on the job training on cane farming.
