A market is now available for pulse crops in Fiji.
Pulses are the edible seeds of plants in the bean family, however, more work needs to be done to encourage and identify farmers who can produce pulses in large volume.
The Agriculture Ministry has announced that FRIEND Fiji, a non-governmental organization, is interested in bulk purchases.
The Ministry is ready to assist farmers who want to venture in pulse farming by providing them with seedlings.
FRIEND Fiji confirmed it has had discussions with the Minister for Agriculture and they are still trying to find the volume Fijian farmers could produce.
The organization says they are able to purchase all that farmers can grow, both for domestic consumption as well as exports.
