The casket business in the country is growing.

Dominion Funeral has been around for more than 10 years making caskets and is now earning sales of over $100,000 annually.

Director for Dominion Funeral Joshua Chand says a few months ago casket sales were high on for infants and over the years there has been an increase in the deaths of young adults.

“People of very young age are dying, I believe there was a time period, a few months back lots of babies were dying, as young as newborn, so in that particular weeks we would sell about 4 to 5 baby coffins in a week alone so that could resemble a lot of issues with our young people” .

Chand also says that an indicator of the boost in the casket business is the establishment of more manufacturers.

“A good indicator would be the number of company that has come up’ so there’s been a lot of competition in the market as well, a lot of new players have come in, a lot of new business has come in and a few have actually closed down as well but I would say for my business personally I think we have had a steady number and over the years as you know death toll have increases.”

In 2017, the estimated death rate stood at 7.2 per thousand population, an increase from 6.2 in 2016.
