Fiji to secure $16m funding for preserving biodiversity

Fiji is expected to secure a funding of $16m for projects in preserving biodiversity, land degradation, and climate change.

Permanent Secretary for the Ministry Of Environment, Joshua Wycliffe says the funding will be given by the Global Environment Facility.

Speaking at the Expanded Constituency Workshop in Nadi today, Wycliffe says the funding will boost the Ministry’s efforts.

“One of the key areas is to identify species that are threatened with extinction and being able to protect those species for Fiji and also looking at opportunities like marine species that would need protection like sharks for instances.”

Wycliffe says they cannot lose out on this funding and they’ll work with key stakeholders to ensure the fund is used efficiently and effectively.
