Fiji Airways welcomes first ever Boeing MAX 8

Fiji Airways today welcomed the first ever Boeing MAX 8 to its fleet.

Airline Chief Executive, Andre Viljoen says this is the first of the five Boeing MAX 8 that they will receive.

The Boeing MAX 8 named the ‘Island of Kadavu’ will replace the five current Boeing 737 NG aircraft.

Viljoen, says the manufacturers of the aircraft have confirmed that the Boeing 737 MAX is the fastest-selling airplane in Boeing history, accumulating about 4,800 orders from more than 100 customers worldwide.

“All guests onboard will enjoy personal seat back entertainment on Panasonic’s E-X-1 screens. With 10-inch screens in Economy Class and 13-inch screens in Business, all guests will access and enjoy movies, TV shows, music and games. We will also, for the first time, be able to offer WIFI connectivity in the air through the Panasonic system. This means, high-speed internet at 30,000 feet, bringing us on par with some of the world’s best airlines.”

Viljoen says the Boeing MAX 8 is also part of their aim to continue growing sustainably every year, by a targeted 8 percent, comprising of adding new routes to the network, and increasing frequencies to the existing destinations.

He adds in a few days Fiji Airways, will become the first small airline in the world to join Global Airline Alliance, “Oneworld”.
