The Fiji Meat Industry Board will work closely with the Agriculture Ministry in its quest to boost the quality and supply of meat products.
Deputy Secretary for Agriculture, Jone Sovalawa says the quality of meat dropped over the past few years due to the disease outbreak in the livestock sector.
He adds the Agriculture Ministry is working towards improving the quality of meat being supplied to markets and the tourism industry.
“The key challenges now the way I looked at it, the Ministry as a whole the challenge is on our side in terms of linking the products right from the farm to ensure we lift the standard here at FMIB. FMIB is a key supplier, key player and that is one of the things that we have been highlighting agriculture to the tourism industry and one of the key areas is how can we better supply our meat and FMIB”.
Fiji Meat Industry Chair, Joanne Young stressed that efficient and effective service delivery will be prioritized by the board.
“And important that the services we deliver and the products we deliver are produced safely and hygienically and that of we think our workers on health and safety”.
The agriculture ministry also donated a tractor to the Board to assist with the workers.
