Electricity providers require a license: FCCC

The Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission has reminded Fijians that only licensed providers are authorized to sell electricity services.

General Manager Senikavika Jiuta says any consumer including individuals, SMEs or businesses that wish to purchase electricity need to ensure that they acquire electricity services from the authorized source.

Jiuta says this applies for any third-party electricity provider.

She says consumers must be aware of relevant laws that exist to protect all Fijians from substandard or faulty products or services.

She reiterated that in order to earn a license, certain standards must be met and maintained by providers.

Jiuta says for this reason EFL is duly authorized to exclusively retail electricity.

The FCCC says this does not negate the requirement for Energy Fiji Limited (EFL) to invest and partner with independent power producers and renewable energy suppliers to bring cleaner energy to Fijian consumers.

Currently EFL is the only authorized electricity service provider in transmission and retail.
