Consumers urged to check receipts

January 15, 2019 12:55 pm

The Consumer Council is urging consumers to check their receipts when paying for fuel and liquid petroleum gas.

This is after the price for both commodities decreased from today.

It says that price decreases will be welcomed by consumers who have experienced successive hikes in fuel prices for almost a year.

The Council is advising consumers to exercise their rights and responsibilities when purchasing products and ensure they are charged the new prices.

The Consumer watchdog has noticed that while most traders usually comply with price changes, there are many neighborhood stores who do not comply with price decreases, especially with kerosene.

It says that these traders use the excuses of not being aware of the price decrease and not being able to make profits by selling at reduced prices.

The council says this is unacceptable and consumers who encounter traders charging incorrect fuel prices are to call the toll free national consumer helpline on 155.
