Business houses in Labasa are being warned not to take advantage of the current situation in Vanua Levu.
This warning is being directed mostly towards those businesses that sell hardware materials.
The president of the Labasa Chambers of Commerce, Satish Kumar, says they haven’t received any reports of price gouging, however they are keeping a close eye on businesses.
“If somebody is found well definitely try and talk to them, well ask them or well take some actions against them that be fair to other.”
Kumar says that the business community should always understand that most affected people are trying to rebuild their life.
“Please make sure that don’t try to put your prices up and this is the time to help each other, actually we all are aware that last year COVID, 5 months and now the cyclone, our people in the northern division are badly affected.”
While the chamber is keeping a close watch, Kumar says relevant authorities are also keeping a tab.
