The Civil Aviation Authority of Fiji is hoping to confirm a Chief Executive soon.

Acting CEO and Manager Corporate Services Ajai Kumar says the position has been vacant for more than two years with the Board now restarting the recruitment process.

In a submission before the Public Accounts Committee, Kumar says one of the reasons for the vacancy is that the position is highly specialized.

“Ex Civil Aviation Executives who are around here would be suitable, if not, we could get retired people from abroad. You cannot get an active Chief Executive from overseas because they’re very very expensive, so those people who would be attracted would be retired from overseas or even locally there are people available here.”

Kumar also explained that the previous CEO had been in the position for 10 years and resigned due to frustrations over his contract renewal, the last of which was only for a month.
