Beef and dairy industries remain stagnant

The overall performance of the beef and dairy industries in the country has been stagnant over the years.

This is according to Minister for Agriculture Dr. Mahendra Reddy while launching the embryo transfer program for the cattle industry.

Dr. Reddy says the stagnant performance is due to the traditional breeds of animal available to Fiji and the diseases that affect the animals.

He says for long now Fiji is still a net importer of beef and dairy products from Australia and New Zealand.

According to Dr. Reddy over the years, the government has been putting in place initiatives to reform the industry with the aim of reducing import by increasing local production.
